So who is Abi Van Twisk?
I am 19 years old and I was born in South London and live in Peckham! I rode for Drops Cycling Team in 2016 and am really excited to continue to ride for them in 2017!
How did you first get into cycling?
I cycled to school ever since I was big enough to reach the pedals, but I first went to Herne Hill Velodrome when I was 6, I absolutely loved it, however the friend I went with hated it! From then on I spent most evenings there after school for the next 8 years.
So how was your first year with DROPS Cycling?
It’s been absolutely amazing, none of us expected for it to go as well as it has. I couldn’t of asked for my first year racing amongst the pro peloton to be better. The team has an amazing spirit, we all get on so well, and the setup is so fresh. Looking forward to bigger and better things in 2017!
We are big fans of the DROPS 2016 Kit, have you had a sneak peek of next season’s kit?
Not yet! I hope it’s as funky though.
Do you have a favourite race from last year?
It has to be between the Giro Toscana or the Tour of Norway. The Tour of Norway was a 3 day stage race in the second half of the season, and I really enjoyed the style of racing and the terrain. Although I did also love the Prudential RideLondon, it was super cool racing around the streets of London.
What are your targets for next season racing?
I want to step my riding up to the next level and start to become more comfortable and competitive in the UCI and world tour races, working with my teammates to get DROPS results. Generally to continue to progress as a rider!
If you could have a super power, what would it be?
Wall climbing for sure!
The Shining or Mean Girls
Yes, but the ratio to butter has to be right!
Favourite place to ride?
Any mountains with switchbacks and long descents
I definitely look up to Lizzie Deignan, a British World Champion is pretty cool, and then to go on and dominate the following season was amazing
Anything with a good froth.
Big thanks to Abi for taking the time to talk to us and good luck next season!
